Capturing SD video problem with VMS

I've been having trouble capturing SD video from my HC1 with VMS. I have VidCap60.exe turned on but when it pulls up I get an error message that says:

The device 'Microsoft AV/C Tape Subnet Device' could not be opened.

Any help trouble shooting this would be appreciated. I also tried capturing with Windows Movie Maker and could not do it there either. The HC1 seems like it is not being recognized when I try to capture SD. HDV capturing is fine though.

Ron, take a look at THIS thread. HDVSplit may be in your future.

Question, you recorded in SD mode on the HC1? Or is it HD video that you're trying to capture as SD? Sorry, I don't know what the HC1 is capable. However, it sounds like VidCap doesn't recognize the video stream coming from the cam.

If you have HD video, why not capture it as HD then render it to SD file with VMS?

It is SD video shot as SD. I just want to see what kind of quality difference there is between the HD & SD. I don't plan on shooting SD all the time, but do want to know what it looks like for future reference.

As you stated, my second option would be too shoot HD and have the HC1 downconvert it to SD through the iLink. I have not tried that yet, but it looks as though it may be my only option. Neither my Vista or XP computers will recognize the SD stream apparently.

I will give HDVSplit a try, although it's only the SD stream I am having trouble with.
