i'm trying to capture parts of a dvd onto my computer by running the cables into my xl1s and then through the firewire to my computer...but everytime i plug the firewire in the xl1s loses the image from my dvd player....what do i need to do to accomplish what I want
Is the DVD copyprotected? Some cams are set up to sniff copyprotection.
I've never tried pass through with a DVD on an XL1, so can't comment with authority, but if you try this with many of the Sony or Panasonic cams, they won't permit it if there is copy protection enabled on the DVD.
Its not copyprotected. Its a dvd that i'm fixing for my church. I tried just pulling the video files off the disk onto my hardrive...but that didn't work..so i ripped most of it...and there's one little section that won't rip for some reason. But anyway...i'm just printing to tape from dvd now...and then to computer. Long way around, but it gets the job done.
Jeremiah, what is your routine for printing to tape from a DVD--there have been a few occasions that I would have like to have done just that, but was unaware that it could be done. I use a Canon GL2. Are you referring to printing to a MiniDv tape or ????. Thanks for your help.
Darrell
I had DV control off and it still didn't work....for recording from a dvd i just run a cable out from the dvd player and in to the camera..and record on mini dv....but...if the dvd is copyprotected...this won't work
