capturing thru a Sony TRV-460

I'm trying to record from VHS and using my Sony Digital8 #TRV-460 as an analog to digital passthru...into my computer through the firewire card.

If I play a tape recorded on the Digital8 camera...Vegas has no problem seeing the video.

If I play a tape from the VCR thru the D8 camera...Vegas see's the video for about one second and blanks out to black...but if I use XP's Windows Movie Maker program to capture the video...there isn't a problem.

I read Vegas's help menu but unsuccessful. Does anyone have a clue?

I'd really appreciate any advice.

You said Vegas has no prob "seeing" video direct from camera. Does capture also work direct? If capture does not work at all, make sure Ignore Third Party Codecs is checked in Vegas preferences. If capture does work, it sounds like you need a A/D converter like one of the Canopus models suggested in your prior threads on this subject. As others have said, analog to digital can be a beast. Hope it works out.

In Vegas capture, go to "Options" > "Preferences", then on the "General" tab, UN-check "Enable DV Device Control."

Thank you very much...

Unchecking "Enable DV device control" is what resolved my issue.

Forums are great!

Thanks so much for the tip here John, I've just saved the money I was going to spend on a Canopus AtoD converter.

Gotta love this forum, and the guys so willing to help out!
