Capturing Video

How do I use the "bin" when capturing clips? I am used to capturing material of a like nature (like all the shots in one city) in one folder then making a different folder for, say, another city. As it is I can give another "Tape" name to new material after stopping the capturing process then starting again but all the clips display in the Media Pool at once. I just want the specific material I'm working on (one city) to show up in the Media Pool. Any ideas?

If you're asking if there is a way to put media in the bin into sub-folders to make them easier to sort through, the answer is that you can't do this in MS3.

Sorry. I agree that it definitely would make sifting through several dozen clips much easier.

It is available in MS3's big brother, Vegas, and, of course, in higher end programs like Premiere.

One compromise would be to store each of your clips in separate folders (either by capturing them to different folders or by manually moving them using your OS) and then using Screenblast's explorer window rather than the media bin to pull in your clips.

Thanks for your reply. I can't figure how to get the clips into the bin in the first place. Also, there is a "Create New Bin" icon on the right side of the capture window so there must be some reason for having them. What are your thoughts?

You get things into the bin a couple of ways:

1) When you capture a video, it is automatically added to the bin in the project you have open;

2) You can browze from the bin and then click to add files; or

3) Any clip you add to your movie project, however you get it in (Explorer, etc.) will automatically be added to your media bin.

But I'm going to check out this "Create New Bin" button as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for the lead!

After rereading your reply I may be misleading you. When I use the term "Bin" I am not refering to the Media Pool, which is where captured clips display as soon as they are captured. After clicking on the Capture Video icon in the Media Pool a Video Capture window opens. On the left side of the window is a folder labeled Clip Bins. It is this folder and the icon which I refered to before called Create New Bin that makes me think there is some way to place like material in seperate folders. Am I making any sense?

You can create new bins in VidCap and then drag and drop clips from the "All Clips" bin. From there you can drag and drop them onto the timeline. What you can't do is create bins in the media pool or, so far as I know, import assets that weren't captured with VidCap.

An alternative approach is to create a folder structure in Explorer and then drag and drop from there.
