CAPTURING VIDEO

I am having trouble capturing video on the Vegas 6.0. I am using a Panasonic DVX 100 via firewire 1394 on a Hp. I cannot get past the first step when I hit "capture I get two options
1 external video capture(dv, video for windows, 3rd party)
2. HDV/SDI

after choosing option 1 I get "video capture was not shut down properly. Would you like to load the previous project?"

I click no and I get no device detected on the bottom of the screen and an it will not allow me to do anything I get the hour glass

Are you using XP with Service pack2? It messed up firewire, there is a patch. Search this board for sp2 or search the windows site.

Thanks for your reply. I am indeed using wdows XP however, I am using service pack 1. Have their been any problems with one? Upo reading the vegas 6.0 manual it states that the program is incompatable with some firewire applications. Is their a list of incompatible computers? I cannot get past phase 1 capturing video. It is getting frustrating because it's an expensive program.

I know you'd like to get your Vegas Capture up and going. Good luck to you on that one.

In the meantime you may want to look into ScenalyzerLive or another capture method to get your project rolling and complete.

Some people on here Swear by Scenalyzer and do DOT use Vegas Capture. I used Scenalyzer once on a computer that Vegas Capture would not work on. It did the trick... but costs like $40.

Heah... I just went back into the Scenalyzer page and noticed that you can still download the FREEware version. There's also a link for it on the DOWNLOAD page.

I wish i could figure out what the heck i did wrong with my computer. I installed SP2 like a good doobie, and VidCap *STILL* runs just fine without any hitches, no patch necessary. This obviously ain't the way it's supposed to be, huh? So help me break it properly folks. *pout*

On the other hand, if we can find out what i did wrong maybe everyone else will wanna do the same mistake too. While we're at it, let's find out why my cholesterol level is only 30. If we can find that problem i'm sure everyone will want some of what's wrong with me. ;)

Yeah, I'm having problems too, Kelly. Installed XP in 2003 and then modified it with the BlackViper's guidance. Then, updated to SP2 but have never had to reinstall it. Too bad BlackViper's site is off the 'Net :-( since I've never had a problem with Vegas capture. What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm. Glad to see the BlackViper is back.

But, John, the VASST FAQ you link to is terrible in Firefox. All the text is unreadable.

I also experienced the problem with the VASST site and Firefox. I was able to read it by selecting the text.
