Capturing video - no sound, how to compress video?

I just got a Panasonic DV tape camera in my hand, I have to capture the video to disk.
I use the USB contact, not the DV out because I do not have the right plug.

I am able to capture video to AVI disk files, bu thave problems:

Problem 1: No sound is captured.
Problem 2: How to I compress the video using Lagarith? Found no option in VIDCAP60 for this

To capture DV, you need to use the DV firewire connection.

USB is primarily for still images that the camera takes.

You can't compress to Lagarith while capturing. You have to do that after you capture by rendering from the Vegas timeline.
