Capturing video problems from my Canon Camcorder

My problem is this, I bought Sony Vegas believing in the Sony brand name thinking this will put Avid to shame and fix the problems. I have had the Vegas 9.0 for three months and can't capture video from my camcorder. Sony will not contact me back about how to fix it. In support they say to change my bios and disconnect my capture card from my video graphics card. Geez if I wanted to take my computer apart to edit video I would have become a computer IT gal. This is ridiculous that Sony wants me to buy a tech support subscription to fix something that should do what it's meant to do from the get go.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it? Thanks for any input.

In order for anyone else to know if they have had the same problem as you, then you would need to provide some basic information:

Camcorder model?
File type and codecs?
Method of capture?
Capture software?
Error messages or results?
System specs?
OS?
