Careful When Applying FX to Project Media

I just found out that when you apply FX to Project Media (which will apply Video FX to all events on the timeline using that original file), if I copy those events to another Veg, the FX doesn't carry over. I guess in retrospect that makes sense, but I had to backtrack and fix a lot of clips. I figured out that I can repair them by -- unless someone else has a better system -- removing the FX from the Project Media, Right-clicking on the original file in the Project Media, choosing "Select Timeline Events," and then dragging the FX I wanted to any of the selected events. The FX then stays with all of the events if I copy them to a new Veg.

CC? There IS a Script that WILL remove ALL Fx from ALL Events. Need some nice person to signpost you though . .

Media FX are really poorly implemented. No way to tell if FX are applied without either trying to set/remove another FX or maybe viewing it on the timeline, no way to apply/adjust a mediaFX unless you drop the media on the timeline (some other NLEs use the trimmer to see FX at this level)

There needs to be some visible clue in the media manager window that MediaFX have been applied, and of course if you copy to a new project then the mediaFX ought to go with it. The workaround is to do a Save As and then start a new project, but that's only practical in a few select situations.

There are quite a few features in Vegas that have just been orphaned over the years.

Why would CC want to remove all Media FX if the complaint is that they aren't retained when you copy from one project to another?

Did I read it incorrectly? If so please explain Rob.

Ha! Grazie, you did read it correctly. I just get anal about my veg work, so I wanted to make sure I took off the FX in the original veg before I applied it another way, because in the back of my simple mind, I'd wake up in the middle of the night wondering if the fx would be applied twice. Confusing, I know. Actually, now that you mention it, I know that Excalibur has a button to remove all fx.

If the little "link" icon is green, that is indicative of applied FX. This applies to either track or event.

Update: If you're talking about before it is on the timeline, still in the Project Media area only, then, yes. No way to tell, which could be a real problem.
