Catching up to Vegas 4

So the new version of Vegas is going to drop this weekend.

Before that happens can we take the time to catch up with Vegas 4. I still haven't found the time to examine all the aspects of Vegas 4. I am waiting for a long project to end to move to a bigger system drive and set up Vegas for real. For new users who are going to visit these boards soon and for current users what are all the best features of Vegas and best scripts and plugins. Or just post your favorite Vegas tip or trick.

Off the top of my head, the best things are:

The online Vegas community.
Using mulitple instances of Vegas in your workflow
Scripting (what are your favorite scripts?)
The output quality and format options.

If you post plugins like Boris Red, Wax, Pixelan or Excalibur, tell us what you do with them.

The new features I like (and use) in Vegas 4.0 :

Master bus tracks for audio and video (hit ctlr b and ctrl shift b)
Audio effect automation
New trim modes
The asio driver support
Vectorscopes

Much more I can't remember

RafaIk,

Sony is showing Vegas 5 at the National Association of Broadcaster (NAB) convention that begins on Sat.

I'm guessing a lot of info breaks on Friday. And it's on sale no later than Monday, but that is just my guess. I have no inside info. Vegas 5 ads have started to show up in latest issues of Video magazines.

Excellent news. Anyone willing to speculate on what the upgrade price might be?

I'm hoping it will be no more than $299 for Vegas 5 + DVDA-2.

By far, my favorite feature of Vegas 4 is real-time preview. Some NLE's let you apply FX and play them back without rendering, but Vegas is the only NLE I know of that lets you apply real-time FX WHILE previewing the video. It's great! I usually set a loop region for a clip or transition area, I then play the region in continuos loop mode, and then I apply my effect. I can then tweak the video FX to my liking while I'm playing it back in real-time.

Gotta love it.
