CD Architect not recognizing attached Teac CD-R55S in Windows 2000

rwreeder wrote on 12/24/2000, 2:16 PM
On my system with a Adaptec 29160 SCSI adapter, CD
Architect is not recognizing the attached (and "fuctioning
properly") Teac CD-R55S in Windows 2000 (service pack 1).
Yet, in Windows 98SE, CD Architect has no problem
whatsoever recognizing the attached CD-R unit. Is there a
known solution?

TIA,
rwr

For those of you interested in learning the solution to
this Windows 2000 problem (it has nothing whatsoever to do
with Sonic Foundry's CD Architect) please e-mail me the
details to your hardware configuration. Life can be good. :)

Happy Holidays!

Has anyone gotten CD Architect to work running 2000, with a
Plextor PX-W1210TA 12/10/32A, the non-SCSI IDE model?

I'm running Windows 2000 with the IDE model.Download the
latest cd architect update (g). Then go into cd architect,
go into options. Click on select drive. Then go
into advanced and under drive type make sure MMC Compatible
ATAPI is highlighted. Next check one of the SCSI hosts.
Then look under SCSI CD-R and you should see the plextor
12/10/32a if not go back into SCSI host & check a different
one. I have this same drive with no problems so far. It
won't recognize exact write speeds though. Example, if you
want to record at 2x since the plextor burns at 1x, 4x etc,
the drive will burn the disc at 1x. If you select a speed
that the drive doesn't function in, it will burn at the
next speed down. Hope this helps.

Hi, Guys.
When I saw the (g) after your suggestion to download the latest cd architect update, I thought you were
kidding... like, using the fairly standard Web abbreviation for "grin"... meaning the remark was
tongue-in-cheek. I figured it was a wry comment on the fact that Sonic Foundry isn't supporting the CD
product anymore. I eventually went to browse their download area, and imaging my surprise when I
found a CD Architectupgrade available, at revision "g".
Haven't tried loading it yet (I have the same problem about having upgraded to a new Plextor model
and finding it not supported), but now that I realize you WEREN'T kidding, I'm about to go ahead and
try it...

I was having the same problem and the steps below did not
help the situation on my computer. I checked out this forum
and when I and on the first or second page I came across a
post from Tom Hamer from 6-30-99 refering to drive
recognition in WinNT. I quote the following.

"Under NT, we sometimes are able to make a CD-R be
recognized
by forcing the use of ASPI. Without going into a technical
explanation, here is what we would like you to try. Browse
to your Windows NT directory and locate the
file "forge32.ini"
or "forgxp32.ini". Open this file in Notepad. Add the
following
line under the Metrics section:

[Metrics]
3307=1

This will force Windows NT to use ASPI to address the drive
and should
allow it to be automatically detected under Options, Select
Drive."

This solution allowed me to sucessfully use the setps below.
works like a charm.

I have two identical systems with a Asus A7V motherboard
and VIA drivers.
