CD burning error IOCTL pls help...

ultrafinriz wrote on 12/24/2007, 11:00 AM
I am having trouble burning audio CDs. I frequently get a coaster along with a IOCTL error message in vegas pro 8a. I have a plextor PX-716a and have both updated the firmware and let windows reinstall as well. I still have the problem. I've thrown away 8 CD-Rs this morning after 5 years of problem free burning.
Please help, I'm going to test out VV6 to see if the problem is there too.
The only other note of this message I can find on the forums is in the vegas movie studio forum:

I installed service packs for MS net framework v2 and v3. I also removed a small USB drive. I'm not sure which of these fixed the problem but it seems to be gone.

I had a PX-716a crap-out. I forget what the error message was, but it burned quite a few coasters before I tried another burner, that fixed it.

OT: The 716a that broke was less than one month out of warranty and Plextor no longer repairs their drives and refused to replace the one I had, even though I only used it ten or fifteen times. Anyway, Plextor not longer means quality. This has been documented by many.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just hooked up my trusty old plextor premium in the DVD burner's place. Same error. The 716a burns DVDs fine in other applications.

Maybe a generic shared library file has been corrupted or version-changed by another application install ? Try installing on another PC and see what happens there.

My 8.0a hs no probs with Plex Premium, Plex PX-750A, LiteOn something-or-other, or Sony DRX-700.....

Geoff,
I have several other copies on other machines, home and work. Only this one that has these problems. I guess you're right, but I have no idea what shared libraries are. If you could shed some more light on this I'd be grateful! I'm tempted to reinstall V8 but I'm afraid it will destroy all my user presets.

Happy new year!

Geoff,
Thanks, I think I need to reinstall XP. I upgraded processors & no longer have a p4 I think the path is indicating.
Vegas is installed in the default location. I don't know what the given path or file in the error message pertain to, or why vegas is going there.

I checked and I don't have that folder on my computer! I searched c: and I don't have that file mentioned in the error.
Still waiting for my tech support ticket to get a reply.
I'm doing more troubleshooting. I'm starting to wonder if it's specific to a project I'm working on.

Thanks,
