CD / DVD Operation

I've being using Imation DVD-R's for the last year or so and have no problems until recently. This is the following error message that I have been getting:

"The couldn't determine the correct power for writing this disc. To solve this you need to use a different writting speed or a different brand of media."

I've never seen this message or heard of it, any ideas?

Is that really the full message? Because there appears to be a word missing between "The" and "couldn't."

When you get this message, are you prevented from burning the disc, or can you continue on? If you can continue on, and the the burn is successful, I would guess that it is an issue between your burner and the DVD-Rs. Is this a batch of Imation DVD-Rs you've used for a while or a new one? If new, check the label to see if the speed is compatible with your burner.

I've gotten this message more than a few times. Often a reboot makes it go away. A few times though it's been an early sign that the burner is dying and needs to be replaced.

I was thinking the samething that maybe the DVD burner is dying, I've had this burner for almost 3 years and use it almost on a daily basis.

Thanks for you help!
