CD labelling Question

Hello there, I just want to ask something about CD labelling.

1. When you give CDs/DVDs to clients, were they all labelled and have casing?
2. How is the label made. Is it with labelling stickers or directly printed? Which one is more practical or easier to use? Which one is cheaper?
3. Is there any labelling software for free download? If there are no ones, please recommend by making a link.

I created some projects for my friends and i want to give it to them with a nice label and casing.

I used to use labels but have since upgraded to inkjet printing directly onto the disc, main reason being that sticky labels and DVDs are not a good idea.

Printing is a little more expensive as the additional cost of the media doesn't quite offset the saving in label cost.

If you don't want to spend the bucks for the printer (I use an Epson Stylus Photo 900) then you can usually pick up the whole kit of labels, applicator and software in most office supply or computer shops. If you don't have the software just make up templates in Word.

As for cases I use a milky plastic mailer case as mostly my stuff is sent overseas and these ones don't break. If its for friends again you can buy the cases wherever the labels are sold.

By the way if you're going to use labels get the 'stomper', you'll never get them on right without it. There's a tricka s well, put the printed sheet with the label down on the table and peel the backing off the label not the other way around. That way you don't curl the label and it'll go on without bubles.

I believe you're an Aussie, so please share your story - I've been told by Epson Oz that they are ...

"not distributing either of the Stylus Photo 900 or the Stylus Photo 960, the major reason for this is that they use die based inks and not pigment inks."

The officially locally available Epson 2100 costs around A$1800, includes A3 printing - wonderful but unwanted - so how much did ya pay, how about cartridge refills, and what about power supply?

Microboards Print Factory uses the HP print engine, HP cartridges (cheap) and does 50 at a time, 14 cents Canadian/10 cents US for full coverage, photo quality and pennies for partial or b/w. I buy printable Taiyo Yuden (?) blanks in bulk at 70 cents Canadian for 600 lots. This brand is top of the line, btw.
