CD mastering/burning software

bgc wrote on 2/1/2001, 1:36 PM
Since CD architect is dead and gone and SF has no plans of
developing anything similar to it, does anyone have any
recommendations for CD software that is of similar quality?
I'm looking for something that will give me the same simple
control as CD architect (view all CD tracks together, have
marker style control of indexing, cross fades, etc.)
Basically I'd like whatever is out there that's as close to
CD architect as possible. I've tried Red Roaster and GEAR
Pro 5.0 and they're not pro enough.
Thanks,
Brett

there are some cool text based ones, like Paddus Disk
Juggler

wavelab has one, but it is no where near as intuitive and
easy to use as CD architecht, but porobably the next best
thing.

For now, I would just keep using CD architecht, as it is
the best thing I have ever seen for this

CD Architect.

How about..... CD Architect?

That would be CD Architect then.

Chris you are a dumbass, if you knew anything about audio
editing then you would know CD architect isn't available to
purchase anymore.

And again dumbass, it's discontinued and not available for
purchase.

Jeez Brian did you have a hard disk crash? No more gorilla
cookies for your afternoon snack! They make you nasty! ;)

Chris probably just thought I was an idiot who didn't make
his living in the audio mines every day and I was ripe for
a flame. Wrong.

Anyways, any suggestions (given that CD Architect IS DEAD
AND GONE AND DOESN'T SUPPORT NEW DRIVES... unless of course
it does by fiddling with the custom parameters... is that
an option? I've heard some people talk about that. Anyone
else hear that? Bueller? Anyone?... Sorry I'm punchy,
been in a high pressure mastering session for the last 6
hours).
Thanks,
Brett

No need to get nasty :)
you KNOW where to find it. I dont think anyone would have
the nerve to get mad about using cracked software that is
no longer for sale

So does that meant that all existing copies have suddenly
stopped working then?

Or am I right in thinking that Brett could still use his
existing copy?

Okay so it was a slight flame... :-)

Seriously, I can't understand why SF don't sell the program
on to someone else to continue development on it, or open
up the source, let people write their own drivers for new
writers etc.

Any chance SF?

I have never had a problem using the custom settings in CD
Architect. The first thing I would recommend is that
everyone get a Plextor drive. They have acted flawlessly
for me over the years. They also tend to be MMC compatible,
which is what CD Architect requires for custom drives.
Just go to the advanced tab and choose either Atapi or SCSI
MMC compliant and then choose the device that the drive is
attached to. It should detetc the drives capabilities from
there...

as for free CDA, I suppose that since they don't sell it
anymore, it isn't illegal to give it away? I don't know the
copyright laws, though. :)

Well, Ok, now that everyone's done being a smart ass. My
solution to this problem was to buy a drive that was
supported. I originally had a Yamaha 8x4x24 Scsi drive and
it didn't have a supported driver, but it still seemed to
work, using similar Yamaha or MMC compliant drivers. The
problem was, that I was constantly having clients say that
they would give a cd to someone and it wouldn't work in
their CD players. Probably a high amount of errors that
some players couldn't handle, because when they brought the
cd back into my studio it would play fine on my CD player.
I even tried using Colin Hill's "Pre" software to convert
from a CD architect wave image to a CDrwin Cue image, and
slowed my burning down to 4X and 2X, and then burn with
CDrwin and this still produced the same results. I bought
a Plexter 8/20 Scsi and this drive rocks! I have had no
problems and cd players are able to read data instantly
when I put it in the player. I burn at 8X with the same
solid results. I love these drives so much I bought 4 more
and started building a SCSI duplicator. These drives are
no longer available from any retail store, but you can get
remanufactured drives from the Plextor website. The 8/20
is $180 and the 8/2/20 is $195, both of these work great
with CD Architect.

Now you might understand why I'm so upset with the new
release of Sound Forge 5.0....CD architect doesn't come up
in the Menus and I just purchased CD burners to support the
software, instead of Vice-Versa. Now if I want to have
24bit compatibility doing mastering and be able to use
Vegas with 24 bit, I have to have 2 versions of Sound Forge
set up on my PC. Thank you very much Sonic Foundry!!!

Yes Charles, Thanks for that advice awhile back. My
Plextor drives rock with CD Architect now. I've had
nothing, but flawless burns with these drives. They also
have supported drivers using Nero, which supports multi-
drive burning, so I built a duplicator with these drives
also. So how do we get CD architect to appear in the new
Sound Forge 5.0?

I'm afraid you'll never get that to happen. Just get used
to having SF 4.5 on your system for CDA. Just rename the
shortcut CD Architect, instead of 4.5. :-)

until SF comes up with an alternative...

Unfortunately I've heard from SF that there's no
alternative in the making. They've actually suggested
competitors products. Keep no hope alive.
