CD mastering software.

Hi

I just recorded some children singing and will make them a CD.

I want to know if it is possible to burn an audio CD with a function like the 'extras folder' in DVDA, where I can put the tracks as MP3 for iPods as well to make it easier for the client.

I have looked at CD architect, but cannot see if it has this feature. Perhaps something else has it?

Thanks.

CD Architect and Vegas only generate audio CDs conforming to the Red Book standard. You are looking to make multi-session CD Extra disc conforming to the Blue Book standard. The first session of a CD-Extra disc contains audio information according to the Red Book. Most all audio CD players can play back this first session as a CD Audio disc. The second session contains the CD-ROM data files. The second session will only be read by computer systems equipped with a CD-ROM or DVD drive. Although unlikely at this point, some computers might not have the drivers necessary to read a multi-session disc.

I made some CD-Extra discs years ago and I seem to remember using NERO. Maybe not, like I said, it was years ago.

nero does it. It also does the data layer first too if you wanted (computer games used to do this). Depending on the age of the CD player, it will play the data layer too! :D (I've never seen a player that wouldn't play a data+audio CD, going back to the mid 90's).

You mean those clients who have never put one of their music CDs into their iPod/iPhone/etc.?

For most people, that task involves clicking one button in iTunes.

If you provide an MP3 data file, you 're just making it less easy (and the quality will be less than AAC at the same bit rate, or uncompressed).

What about all us people out there smart enough to pick something better than an iPod/iPhone/iTouch?

I've got an MP3 player that acts like a removable USB hard drive that came with fantastically AWFUL software. It's plenty easy and simple to drag MP3 files to it's drive letter right from the OS but trying to manage anything with it's software is somewhere between a nightmare and impossible. Anything that makes it easier to get the MP3 files to begin with is a bonus.

while putting mp3's of the tracks that are on the CD is a good idea, you're talking only ~60 minutes worth of mp3's. I'd rather have one large CD with ALL the mp3's on them vs putting in a dozen discs to copy/paste them to my drive.

Thanks :-)

I ended up just making the audio CD without any extras.
