CDA - Changing Default Prot Flag Settings

Procomm_John wrote on 8/11/2004, 2:14 PM
Using CD Architect 5.0.

Within the Track List window, I'm wanting all copy protection flags to be set as Unchecked/Disabled by default. At this point, all Prot flags are set as Checked/Enabled by default. Is there any way to change this as a Preference somewhere??? Because I sure can't find it.

I've looked for the way to set the protection flag default to "off" as well but didn't find anything. I've recorded cd's with and without this checked and ripped material from them so I'm not really sure what this setting is doing anyway.

Does anyone have a clear explanation of it. The manual says "Select the Prot check box to add a flag to the Q subcode to prevent digital copying of your CD." But as I said, I ripped tracks that had been burned with the protection flag set to "on". So I just always manually set it to "off".

I've also been able to rip material from CD's that I have recorded with the Prot flag checked. But yesterday I had a client that couldn't copy or rip from a CD that I had recorded with the Prot flags checked (I didn't realize I had them checked at the time).

I suppose I will just have to manually set it to off as you say you have been doing... But that will surely be annoying for CD's with a ton of tracks. It certainly would be easier if there was a preference you could change somewhere within the program.

Agreed. Hopefully there'll be an option to set the default in the next version, as long as there is another version since this is the only old Sonic Foundry program that hasn't yet been rebranded with the Sony name a good year after the buyout was official.

--Edit--- Ted_H from Sony has corrected me on this point. Yes, it was rebranded and has the Sony name.--

Looking forward then to 6.0 and seeing if the default "Prot" flag can be set to off.
