CDA, VV3, and Plextor

As many of you know, I maintain a page at http://theacf.com/cda/ that details current drives that work with CDA, and gives some workarounds and alternatives of how to still get value from CDA with newer drives. Here's a couple questions, one for the users, and one for Sonic Foundry:

1) I've read that some of the newer Plextor models do not work with the VV3. Is it also the case that these specific Plextor models do not work with CDA either? If they don't work with CDA, do they at least work with CDPBurn?

2) One of the primary reasons cited for taking CDA off the market was that it was too costly to maintain support for the various new CDR burners that were always coming out. SF introduced the generic MMC option in one of the final updates which really helped a lot of us continue using the product with newer drives. So my question is, what approach is SF taking in implementing DAO burning in VV3? Is it strict MMC compliance only, or are they writing specific code for each drive? And what is the reason Plextor drives aren't working in VV3? Do the new Plextor drives have some kind of problem in their MMC compliance?

Thanks for the info. I just want to update my site with the above info when I have the answers.

Regards, Brent

I tried CDPBurn but couldn't get it to work with an EIDE Plextor 24/10/40.
Plextor blame SoFo. Neither company will give a date for a fix. I think I am going to have to dump the Plextor (3 months now) - but sod's law says as soon as I do they will bring out VV3a...

As of Friday, March 1 2002, Vegas Video 3.0a was available from www.sonicfoundry.com/download under the Updates Section. There is still a known issue with the Plextor drive as you have stated and we are currently working on a fix. No information is available for if and when this fix will be ready. Check back to these Forums as well as the link listed above for future updates.
