CDA won't recognize burner under XP

I recently installed CD Architect (vs 4.0g, build 358) on a new Dell PC running Windows XP. Although the basic Sound Forge functions work, CDA no longer auto-detects my CD burner (Matshita CW-7502 SCSI). This of course makes CD burning impossible! I have tried all the obvious things (reboot
computer, reistall software, mimic earlier windows environments, system restore etc.), all to no avail. Entering the CD burner info manually does not work either.
I don't think it's a conflict with other CD burning software (Roxio Easy CD Creator Platinum, Music Match etc.) as I have successfully burned one (and only one) CD with CDA on this new PC.

Has anybody had this problem and possibly know of a work around?
CDA has served me well over the years and I would hate to have to shell
out for a new program.

Thanks,

Ah.. This topic finally resurfaces once again!! This was a big question when Windows XP was first released about 6 months ago. There is actually 2 ways to fix this problem and BOTH of them work just fine. (I had the same CD Burner as you when I got this running the first time. I have since upgraded to a Yamaha 16x10x40 which is great!)

The first solution is to download an updated ASPI driver for Windows XP. This is something that you will need to download from your SCSI card manufacturer. (Adaptec, SiiG, etc.) Install it, reboot and the drive should now appear.

The second solution is to run CDA in 'Compatibility Mode'. Many programs originally didn't run in XP, so M$ created a tool for Windows XP. There is a version of it on the XP CD, but you may want to check the Microsoft website for the latest.

I hope this helps you out!! Peace!

Thanks so much for responding.

Unfortunately, neither solution has got me burning CD's with CDA yet! I tried
to locate the website for my SCSI card manufacturer, (advansys) but they seem to
no longer be in operation. I must have tried two dozen different drivers sites and many of them listed links to advansys but the links no longer work.

I've already got CDA & Sound Forge running unser the Windows98/ME profile in
XP, but still it will not detect the drive...

I would be grateful for any other ideas/solutions you may have!

Thanks again for your help.

Hmm.. I don't know of any other solutions. I used them both and both of them seemed to work for me. Since you don't have an Adaptec sound card, I don't recommend you install the Adaptec ASPI update. The only other thing is to try the compatibility update again. I know it works... I've done it... :-)

Actually, another thing that you can try is go backwards in this forum. You may need to go back quite a while, but this topic was discussed "to death". The instructions that I had used to get my burner to show inside of CDA are from this forum...

Another program that you can look at is CDPBurn. It's written by Colin Hill and it takes a .cdp playlist and burns it to CD the same way the CDA would. Works flawlessly on MMC-3 compatible drives. (Except for select NEC drives..)

Give it a try... Download it from http://www.projecteva.net/premaster.shtml
