Cdr 8x Scsi recommendations

Rednroll wrote on 11/2/2000, 1:10 AM
Can someone make a suggestion for a good SCSI Cdr which
can burn at 8X and has a supported driver for CD Architect?
I've been using a Yamaha CDRW8424S and I have to cross my
fingers everytime I burn a disk using CD architect because
it's not supported. The discs seem to play fine at my
studio on a Pioneer DVD player, but I have a lot of clients
calling and saying the disks skip on their car and home
players. I have done many tests, and work arounds and have
determined that CD architect is the root of this problem,
so I would just like to purchase a Cd recorder that will
work with it and still give me fast results.

Thanks,
Brian Franz

Brian - I swear by Plextor drives. They rule. I just bought one which
is a cdrw 40(I think)x12x10 and it didn't show up in CD Arch
automatically, but it DOES respond to the atapi MMC compatible choice
and I've had no problems.

good luck, and I'll get back to you about the O3D probs... :)

Is there a way to confirm that a drive is MMC compatible? I was
using the MMC Scsi Compatible driver and it worked, but like I said
my clients would get home and call me telling me their CD does
nothing but skips. I also used the Yamaha CD400 driver and that even
seemed to work better, but I still had some instances? I would just
like to feel confident, that the CD I'm giving them will work and
right now it's a crap shoot. My clients are leaving here happy with
the quality of work I'm doing for them, but then getting home and
they can't even listen to something they just paid for. You haven't
had any problems with your Plextor drive huh? So far I've had the
best luck, saving as a Wave file and using Colin Hills "Pre" program
to convert to a Cdrwin Cue file, but this adds extra steps and not to
mention the extra hard drive space I need. I will look into a Plextor
drive. Does anyone else have any other recommendations?

Thanks for the help Charles.

Well, the plextor drive I'm using now (CD-R PX-W8220T) has been
absolutley flawless. It is supported by CD Arch 4.5g and I have maybe
had 1 or 2 cases out of at least 1000 where the duplication plant, or
client, has told me it didn't play. When people have a problem, I
drop the write speed down to 6x or 4x and the problem goes away. I'm
not sure if that drive is still for sale, but if it is, I would grab
it. :)

I have to agree with Charles on the Plextor. I also have the
(CD-R PX-W8220TE) external scsi CD-RW drive. It has performed
flawlessly for me. The latest CD Arch update ( 4.0g ) has the
driver specifically for it. I purchased mine from buy.com this
past May. I just checked their website, but they no longer carry it.

Brian,
I have the 6X version of the Yamaha. I too have made CD's for people
that they can not play in all devices.

What I've learned is - basically there are errors written on every CD
you burn... and the faster you burn your chances of writing an error
is greater. I would keep the drive (Everyone I talk to loves that
drive). just burn your audio 1 or 2 speeds slower.

I have panasonic 7503 8X SCSI Burner that I use to burn CD's everyday
(at least 4-5 a day). Its still rocking 5 months later and Ive never
had anyone ring me to tell me that the CD dosent play.

recomended by me
