CDR recognized but can't be used

I have Sound Forge 4.5b and CDArchitect 4.0e running on
Windows NT 4.0. When I run CD Arch from Sound Forge, every
time I run it I am asked to select the CDR drive I want to
use. And, every time I select my CDR drive, which is
correctly listed automatically by CD Arch as: Philips
CDD3610 CD-R/RW 3.08 (1,0). However, the status bar at the
bottom of the screen still says "No CD-R currently
selected" even after I've select this drive. So then when
I try to click "Disk" then "Write Audio" from the menu to
write my project to the CD, it says "You need to select a
CDR drive, do you wish to do this now?" and I click "Yes"
which brings up the same select CDR dialog that came up
when I first launched CD Arch. I select my Philips drive
again, click OK, then the "You need to select a CDR drive,
do you wish to do this now?" dialog comes up again, and I
repeat this process ad infinitum... whenever I select the
drive and click OK, the dialog box telling me I need to
select a drive always reappears, and CD Architect, while
apparently aware of the existence of my drive, won't
actually let me USE it. When I look at the drive
properties for the Philips drive from the select CDR dialog
box, the info is all correct in terms of read and write
speed, etc., but CD Arch simply will not let me USE the
drive.

What can I do? I've looked at the FAQ page on your web
site but none of the information helped, I have the most
current drivers for my drive, etc., and I'm not on a
network, though I am running NT Server.

Ed,

I replied to this same message sent to support@sonicfoundry.com and you reported that
my fix did allow the Philips CDD3610 to work with CD Architect under NT 4.0. I will copy this here for the benefit of users who may be experiencing the same issue.

Ed,

Under NT, we sometimes are able to make a CD-R be recognized
by forcing the use of ASPI. Without going into a technical
explanation, here is what we would like you to try. Browse
to your Windows NT directory and locate the file "forge32.ini"
or "forgxp32.ini". Open this file in Notepad. Add the following
line under the Metrics section:

[Metrics]
3307=1

This will force Windows NT to use ASPI to address the drive and should allow it to be automatically detected under Options, Select Drive.
