Celluloid and ReelPak-1 for Vegas 4/5

Spot|DSE wrote on 12/1/2004, 4:19 PM
Celluloid and ReelPak-1 for Vegas 4 and Vegas 5 have been released. ReelPak-1 is the first 'module' or add-on for Ultimate S. (We've also released an update to Ultimate S) David Jimerson of DVX100 fame designed these magical film-looks for us.

However, since many users of Vegas 4 felt 'left out' of the plugins we're doing, we decided to create Celluloid, a host for ReelPak-1, that also comes with 6 additional FilmLooks, converts 4:3 to widescreen, converts a project to 30p or 24p, and offers global Reduce Interlace Flicker.

ReelPak-1 for Ultimate S is $19.99
Celluloid for Vegas 4/5 with ReelPak-1 is 34.99

Is the download demo link dead? Perhaps I have missed it but the download demo wasnt a link and the only other link i saw was for the free update for UltimateS

Does Ultimate S only come in a dowload? Can I get a disk?
Spot|DSE wrote on 12/1/2004, 5:48 PM
You can get Ultimate S on a disk. We're not putting Celluloid on a separate disk because it's inexpensive, small, and can be piggybacked on the Ultimate S disk

Patrick, It's working great from here....had more than 74 downloads in the past 3 hours, so folks are getting thru...We had a 1 hour down time where our bandwidth puked, but that was resolved at around 2:00 MST.
Please try again?

Spot - I'm using Vegas 4. I downloaded the Celluloid demo from your website and installed it. But I can't find it anywhere. Where should I be looking for this? It seemed to download ok but I don't see how I'm supposed to launch Celluloid?

Thanks,

-Dean

Dean,

Once you download the zip file you must unzip it and double-click on the Celluloid4Instaler.msi file to run it. This will start the installation program. Since Vegas 4 doesn’t have a script directory, you can install Cellulloid anywhere you like. You just have to remember where you put it! The default location is:
C:\Program Files\VASST\VASST Celluloid for Vegas 4
Once its installed, start Vegas 4 and use Tools > Scripting > Run Script... and navigate to the directory Celluloid was installed into and select the Celluloid.js script.

You should assign Celluloid to one of your free script hotkeys and then place it on the toolbar for easy access. There are 10 script hotkeys. Use Ctrl+Shift+1 through Ctrl+Shift+0 to assign Celluloid.js to one of the hotkeys. Then when you want to call up Celluloid, just pres Ctrl+ the number you assigned it to.

To place an icon on the Vegas 4 toolbar, double-click on the toolbar in an empty area on the right. In the Customize Toolbar dialog, select Celluloid from the left-hand list and click the Add-> button to add it to the right-hand list. Then press the Close button. An icon with the hotkey number should appear on the toolbar.

I just noticed that when you run VASST Celluloid for Vegas 4 it pops up an error that Sony Chroma Blur cannot be found. This is because Vegas 4 doesn’t have this plug-in. We are working on how to deal with the incompatibilities between Vegas 4 and Vegas 5 and will provide a fix shortly.

John how do you use filmlooks on the timeline to show the film look on the preview screen before you render?
JohnnyRoy wrote on 12/2/2004, 9:04 AM
Since the script engine doesn’t give you access to the video data, there is no way to preview the look within Ultimate S or Celluloid. That’s one of the reasons we decoupled the “Look” from the “Render”. You can now render your project to 24p without a look and then apply the looks as a second step.

Here is what I do to audition the looks:

1. Select the video track you want to apply the look to
2. Launch Celluloid or Ultimate S (If you are using Ultimate S, select the Film Looks tab)
3. Uncheck everything except Apply Film Look
4. Select the look you want from the film look dropdown box
5. Press OK to apply the look.

The look will be applied to the selected video track. If you don’t like it, press Ctrl+Z to undo the look and go back to step 2 and select the next look and apply that, until you get a look you like.

Of course you can apply the looks without rendering at all if you want to remain 60i or Convert to 30p.

sound complicated. Can you explain in dummy style. Step by Step. Thanks johnny roy.
Gonzoman wrote on 12/2/2004, 9:33 AM
Thanks Johnny - got it up and running fine now!

JohnnyRoy wrote on 12/2/2004, 10:17 AM
I updated my original post to be more step-by-step. If you want 24p, then use the Convert Video to 24p option first. Continue with the other steps after the rendering is complete.

JohnnyRoy, you probably want to type all this up at a ReadMe file and put it in the celluoid zip file.

Also, a lot of people don't know an msi file is an installer, so you may want to call it something like, Celloid_Setup.msi

Spot,
Can I use the discount coupon that's included when you puchase a Vasst DVD, to purchase UltimateS? or is it only for additional dvds.
If so , I took the survey a few weeks back (hadn't used the coupon yet)but I'm not sure I remember the discount code.
I can email you what I think it was,I know I must be close..

Spot - I downloaded the trial for Vegas 4 - it has 6 film look presets. Do I get more than this when I purchase they key?

-Dean
Spot|DSE wrote on 12/2/2004, 5:20 PM
yes. The Trial Version gives you the 6 presets, when you purchase, we email the remaining 15 for a total of 21.
Gonzoman wrote on 12/2/2004, 5:21 PM
Ahhhhhh - good deal!

Thanks Spot!

Yea, I’ve already started doing this. I kinda got spoiled by Vegas 5 and forgot that it won’t be so obvious for Vegas 4 users to know what to do next. We are also looking into putting links to the .Net framework 1.1 on the download site as well because Vegas 4 doesn’t ship with this. Lots of little differences and gotchas. Thanks,
