Hope I'm not stating the obvious here...

While in Text Edit Mode, select all of your text. Under the text tab, change Line Alignment from Near to Center.

Yes it is the obvious, which is why I did just that, first thing.

The text remained left-justified in the text box and the text box stayed put.

I moved the text box so the text was sort of in the middle, but it was still left-justified--so each line started at the same indent level (i. e., left-justified) as when it came in. This is not centered, it is left-justified, drug over to sit near the center of the screen.

there's also some odd behavior such that when I select a single line, drag it to the center, then hit ESC to select the whole box, the text goes back to its original spot.

I pasted text, selected it & hit the center option & it worked.

to center the text box make it's x & y offset 0.

Ok I’ve got the same problem

When you delete an event on the timeline PTT still retains the last xy position this doesn’t automatically reset you have to right click on the text and click reset
And do that if you were in line or character or block mode… check each mode and reset

I think when you delete an event on the timeline ALL SETTINGS should go back to default maybe Sony can change this

>>wrote a centered closing credits list one in Word, pasted it in and am going bats tying to center things.<<

One possible is that there are some spaces or tabs in the text you generated from Word which means that the centered text includes the spaces or tabs. Look closely when you select all the text and if you can see that spaces are highlighted, delete them.

copy your text from notpad instead.

I used openoffice write to copy/paste my text.

if you center with spaces it highlights the space too.

I'd say either you're doing something wrong or protype is messed up in the install. A small possibility is a window issues.
