Certified Vegas User Exam - who can tell about it?

Who can tell me abot Sony Certified Vegas User Exam? I know, it is a test, but more? It is time limited? What happens if I lost Internet connection during test?
Maybe somebody has any example question?
And at last - if you paased this exam, do you have any benefits of it? Except for satisfaction of course.

Hello Maciej,
three things:
1 - a cool little logo thingy to use as you see fit to identify your skill level as a user or editor to others ...
which brings
2 - an instant recognition of the skill level and commitment one has to Vegas;
and
3 - a personal gauge of one's own skills against those that Sony believes to be important for successful use of Vegas.

Not any skill or experience with video or films overall, simply with Vegas as an NLE ...
I wish they would offer a trainer exam. I don't see one anywhere - or any offers for training (online or in-person)... hmmm... did the whole rating scheme die a quiet demise?

Others may have other ideas about why they did it; these three pretty much summarize why I did it...

Until that time... Earl J.

After having used VMS and Vegas Pro some years I took the course and passed the exam in order to get a better knowledge of Vegas - beyond the skills I use every day - and to be sure that I had seen most parts of Vegas.

The course forces you to learn about things that you might not use or know - but which can improve your use of Vegas (i.e. all the shortcuts).

The course has plenty of examples of the questions in the exam - and yes - the exam is time limited - very :-) - but you get (as far as I remember) 3 shots at it - and with different questions every time.
I used my spare time in 2-3 weeks for it - and the outcome was very interesting and certainly worth the effort.

I can not do the SCVE as it involves travelling to SCS in Madison - which is pretty far away -seen from Copenhagen, Denmark, that is :- )

@Earl: I think I saw a post here some time ago (could not find it again now) where - again I think - it was Spot from VASST - who wrote that something was coming up - but I have not seen anything yet.

If you can do the SVCE you can do it in Germany, Italy, UK, Spain and the Netherland - of course maybe I'm wrong - ask in Sony-Europe in the UK.

It does appear that the programs are dying a quiet demise here in the United States...
The Sony site offers the User cert online, and the Editor cert at the HQ in Madison.

It's a shame that the Trainer cert isn't offered anywhere...
I took my training and exam through VASST when they first offered it back several years ago; it appears they quit offering the training OR the link I found is very old - the link to their training schedule is 404.
* * *
Perhaps Sony might also provide training for individuals to become testing moderators - like the moderators for the SAT and school testing - just ensure no one cheats, and that the testing materials maintain an official chain of custody... and no copying or sharing of the questions...
I'd travel to Madison for that sort of certification...
It appears to me that they need to encourage the certification program if they want to continue the expansion of the Vegas Pro NLE into the professional NLE arena and overcome the hobbyist stigma ... or hobbyist viewpoints of many other NLE users. A simple symbol to demonstrate the quality and skill of a Vegas users and editor might very well become a symbol of professional expertise to the general public and not just amongst ourselves...
They don't need to give away the certifications with a simple exam, but they certainly should make it easier to earn the certifications... and provide an avenue to earn training certs.

UPDATE: I just submitted two recommendations to the product suggestions:
1 - broaden training to include SVCT (trainer) and testing;
2 - broaden Editor training to use trusted and trained moderators to provide a cadre to offer Editor controlled testing outside the Madison city limits...

Until that time... Earl J.

I've got information about possibility to certificate not only in Madison direct from SONY UK. I'm sure - CSVE is possible. The Trainer -I don't know.

I will tell you this. The certifications are not dead in the US. I have personal involvement, (and authorized to say so) so you can expect that I won't say much more at the moment.

At the moment, the SCVU exam is available on-line. In the US, the SCVE exam is only given to the general public at Madison. Right now, an SCVT process is not available.

Training is still available from several people. I for one offer training for the SCVU in Orlando. I will also have on-line self-paced preparation classes available soon. I am currently in the process of writing and shooting the assets required. The site is live, but the certification prep class will not be visible for a while yet. You may view and take a prototype mini-course on the site to see the style of the large certification prep courses. My e-learning site is a personal project and not under the direction of SCS, nor are they associated with it in anyway. (disclaimer)

As kkolbo reports, the certification program is most definitely alive. We're working now to make it much easier for you to earn your SCVE designation--no matter where in the world you're located--without travelling to Madison. That's step one. Step two will be an expanded SCVT (certified trainer) option, but that's a little further off.

I don't have any details to share yet, but I hope to in the not-so-distant future. If you feel that you are qualified to hold the SCVT designation, please send a note to: scs-training@am.sony.com so we can compile a list.

Thanks to everyone for your support of Vegas Pro and the certification program!

Gary,

Will SCS be notifying current SCVU people when and how we can move up to the SCVE cert. I have been wanting to get that but cannot afford a trip to Madison.
