I would like to select my video track and all the transitions in it and have vegas automatically change the length of each transition to be 4 sec. I don't want to do them one by one. is there a way that this can be done. Thanks
You can change the time (under preferences) but not apply a single transition across a range of events (expect for simple cross-fade) which I hope gets corrected in version 4 of Vegas.
I think, when you select few files and drop them on timeline, the auto dosolve time will be inserted. This time can be set in preferences. Don't think what you ask for can be done (which is a pitty)

I just finished a project that I manually changed the length on all crossfades. I looked all over options/preferences but didn't find where to change the length. Can you tell me how to get there please.
Thanks BillyBoy,
Randy
Excuse me for speaking for BB, but I think he is referring to the "cut to overlap conversion" setting and auto-checkbox; active when multiple elements are dragged to the TL, or when the numpad-/ keystroke is used.
FWIW, you can drag a defined loop selection around the TL to use as a guide for setting identical trans durations: Cursor to the next trans, drag the defined loop-selection to snap, then drag the trans to the loop selector.
Click Options/Preferences/EditTab. You can change both the default for still images and the extent of the overlap. A nice feature when you drop a whole bunch of images at once then have them all overlap by the same amount. All that's missing is being able to apply some transition other than the cross-fade to all images at once.
Thanks guys, I've considered using that option before but I invariably have to trim the ends after adding to the timeline so this option would not help me...(right?)
Thanks again,
Randy
You might also consider using the Ctrl-Alt-Drag tool to trim your transitions...
"Continuous playback" workflow possibility:
Add elements using the auto-overlap
Set loop selector (generously) to loop-preview any transition, and loop-play
Trim the transition using Ctrl-Alt-Drag for the outpoint of the "from-event" and use the Slip tool to trim the inpoint of the "to-event"
Rinse and repeat (move to the next and repeat process)

Could you please explain this procedure a bit more? I'm still trying to get my mind around this.
