Change img file location, when copying events from one veg to another?

MikeLV wrote on 4/3/2017, 12:48 PM

Using V13 - I have two .veg projects; an old one that won't be used and a new one from a re-shoot. However, there are items on the the old timeline that I want to reuse on the new timeline, so I copied them from the folder of the old project to the folder of the new project and then copied those images on the old timeline to the new timeline.

The problem is that when I do Properties, Media check (on the new timeline), the image event is still referencing the old folder location. Is there a way to change the file locations of these image assets to the new project folder location? Thank you.

Rename the folder in the old location temporarily. When you open the new veg it will not find it and you can specify the new folder location.

Thank you that worked, actually better than you intended. Turns out if you copy the media to the new project's folder beforehand, then after you rename the other folder. I guess the default action is for Vegas to search for the media in the current project's folder, so I didn't even have to specify the new location :-)

so I copied them from the folder of the old project to the folder of the new project and then copied those images on the old timeline to the new timeline.

This is something I don't understand why you do this.
No need to use a new location for a new project. You can make all the projects you want using the same folders and locations including new subfolders for new footage.

Probably, like I do, he wants to keep all of each project as unique folders. Easier to archive and track.

Cornico, david-tu is correct. In the past, when I first started using Vegas, I'd insert a graphic or something from the desktop, and then open the project up x amount of time later only to discover that the file is missing from the timeline. So I always keep any assets in the project folder so everything always stays together and doesn't get lost.

Therefore I use 'Save as.... and Copy media with project' after finishing the project.
Seams easier to me, but maybe not for others. 🙂

I do that at the end of a project, but during a project I like a unique folder.

When you do "save as" at the end, do you just save over the current project file, or do you save a new one in the same folder and delete the previous one?

At the end of a project, I do the SAVE AS with media to a new folder and that becomes my archive. This only keeps what was used in the project so you have to be sure you don't need extra takes or such that are separate files.

but during a project I like a unique folder.

I also have, with subfolders

Video
Audio
Projects
Images
"In between" renders

After the rough cuts I save the project on a special (external) harddisk with the used media and so I do after each day working on the project.
In the folder "projects" I store after about every 10 minutes the project with a number. "Projectname 01" and so on.
I never delete a projectfile untill the real finish of that project.
