Change sizing of image

I have imported a graphic (.png) into project media where it looks just like it should (i.e. a square). But when I drag it down onto a timeline, the sizing gets distorted (i.e. a rectangle). At that point, how do I change the sizing of the image so that it is correct (a square again?) Thanks!

Right click on the event and check "Maintain Aspect Ratio."

I've tried that, but it is still distorted. Is there any way to select the item itself and change the sizing?

I'm surprised that didn't do it.
Silly question here, is your project set for nonsquare pixels?
Does your project match your source media?
Post project and media properties, please.

In Event Pan/Crop, right click on the box, and select "Match Source Aspect."
