Changing an event within a project

tomadonna wrote on 2/10/2002, 7:17 PM
I have a full project edited the way I want it. Now I want to change a certain event in the project, I want to make it slower. The problem is when I do it with the velocity envelope I need to restrech the event to fit so that all the frames of the event appear and thus connect with the next event properly. The problem is I cant do it without dragging all the other events to the right in order to make room for the new slower event. Isn't there a faster way?

have you tried Insert | Time?

Yeah but still, it splits the events and then you have to keep adding more and more seconds until the event fits exactly...

Thanks GG, also is there a way I can tell Vegas not to make the event go longer then were I split it?

Let's say I have a 30 seconds clip. I split the clip in the 10th and 20th second thus creating 3 parts. I only change the velocity of the middle part to say %40. Now I want vegas to know that when I drag the new slower clip to the right, not to go past the frame that was at the end of the 20th second. Can I do it?

I am not sure if I read your first post correctly, but it appears your concern isn't the length that the event ends up being as much as the work required to slide all the remaining events back into relation. If that is the case (if not , just ignore me) the answer is easy. Adjust the event and then select the event to the right of it. Make sure to select the next event on all tracks (ctl-click). Then right click over one of the events and you will see a selection to select all events to end. Once you do that, you can slide everything in relation in one move and you are set.

i think i see what you mean... you slow down a clip and you want it to mate with the stuff that follows it.

i don't think there is a built in feature that does it. you might be better off using velocity envelopes instead. then you wouldn't have to split the event in the first place. you can slow it down to 40% and then bring the speed back up. what's the point of splitting?
