changing field order

Trying to do the old film look trick in Vegas - duplicate a clip, load it onto the time line above itself, change the field order of the top clip, reduce its opacity by 50%. Trouble is I can't figure out how to reverse the field order of the top clip without the one below it changing aswell. Is there an 'interpret footage' setting in Vegas that can be applied on an event or clip by clip basis?

duplicate the footage on your video drive first?
Perhaps someone budding out there could make a FX filter to do the same?

rightclick on the video in the timeline, select "properties", click the media tab and your field order is 3 dialog boxes fro mthe top! :) this works in VV3 and 4. I checked.

Happy friar - no it don't work. Perhaps I didn't explain myself clear enough - load a clip on track 1 from the explorer/media pool. load another version of this from the media pool onto track2. Change the field order (as you described) on the top clip to (say) upper field first. Then check the properties of the lower clip and you find they have ALSO changed to upper field first! It seems to be changing the properties of ANY version of the clip on the timeline simultaneously. You don't seem to be able to separate the behaviour of the fields on an event by event basis. Why not? Is there another way to do this -similar to the 'interpret footage' command in Premiere/AFX?

Oh.. I did it with 2 different video's. :) I got the same results you did with the same video, so try to copy and paste your source video in the same folder. it will take up twice as much space, but then they will be two seperate clips you could work with. Also, did you try the tvsimulator fx? that might work. it has an interlace option. that might produce the effect you want.
