Changing Length of Generated Media

I frequently want to add a 1sec black video to the timeline. When I drag, the "Solid Color Black" to the timeline, it's always 10sec. and I have to drag the box to shorten it to 1 sec. Is there any way to save a "1sec" solid black that can then be put on the timeline? Thanks.

You could render 1 sec of black and put it in the media pool.

When you have added the first instance of black to the time line you can also see it in "Project Media" called something like Sony Solid Color xx.
Now rightClick it there and under properties change the length to 1 second.
When you add it to the timeline from now on its length is 1 second.
