changing speed of a clip

I've learned there are two ways to change the speed of a clip.

When I hold the ctl key done and drag with the mouse I am able to speed up a clip in the time line.
When I try and use the velocity envelope and speed up the clip I am finding that the when I raise the green line I end up changing not only the clip that I am working on but also part of the next clip in the timeline that is seperated by the slice.

Try this:

1. Select clip
2. Go to INSERT/ VIDEO ENVELOPES/ EVENT VELOCITY
3. Speed/slow down with the green line.

Make sure the adjacent clip is not overlapped.

Thanks I tried that but it still seems to effect the ajacent clip. I even put the clip on a different track and still effects the other clip..

If I render the clip whoose speed I'm trying to change first then the speed change does not effect the other clips on the time line.

Appreciate any suggestions.
