Chapter Markers

1/. I've found that if I render to MPEG2, then change the name of the file, DVDA won't recognise the chapter markers when I import to file. If I change the name back to the original, the markers are recognised.

Is this the same with every one, or just me?

2/. When I use batch render to render my MPEG2 files in Vegas 7, the chapter markers aren't saved. I select the DVDA PAL Template, and it had the box regarding saving markers checked.

When I select this template via the normal render route, the markers are changed.

Any ideas appreciated.

No clue about #2, sorry, but #1 is simple. The MPEG files do not contain the markers. They're saved separately in a .SFL file with the same name. So if you render to output.mpg you also get a file named output.sfl. If you rename output.mpg to othername.mpg, DVDA will look for othername.sfl and won't find it. Rename output.sfl to othername.sfl also and you'll be fine, as long as you do it before importing the .mpg file into DVDA.

Regarding #2, the option to "save project markers" isn't part of the template; it's an option in the Render As dialog. (The template saves the actual video settings -- anything you see when you click Custom. The option to save markers is used to create an additional file as mentioned in Chienwork's post.)

There was a post a last month about how to edit the Batch Render script so that markers are saved. Doing a search of this forum for "batch render markers" should pull it up for you.

Regarding #1, the SFL file created with the MPEG-2 file also contains the original filename of the rendered file, so even if you change the SFL's filename to reflect any change you made to the MPEG-2 file's name, the markers still won't be recognized in DVDA.

I find it far simpler to use the DVDA chapter from Vegas marker script to re-export the timeline markers for an MPEG-2 file. It works great for me.
