Chapter selection trouble

Hello,

In my Scene selection menu my chapters don't highlight in order. For example: The menu starts with chapter 7, I then press down on the virtual remote (preview DVD mode) and it goes to chapter 8 and then 9 but it skips chapter 10 and goes to 11. If I press the up arrow on the remote from chapter 11 it goes to chapter 10 and skips chapter 9 and highlights chapter 8.

Is there a way to control the order of what chapters get highlighted?

For each button, you can set what happens when any of the arrow keys are pressed. Just expand the Navigation section of the properties for the button, and select the action for each button.

I've been doing this successfully, but suddenly when I change the Navigation destination to something else from the drop down menu, the change doesn't "stick" - it goes back to how it was.

Have I started doing something wrong - this is frustrating - I'll have to try Reinstalling DVDA2 ......

Update - I've uninstalled and reinstalled but no change. This is only happening with one Scene Selection Menu - others in the same project accept Navigation changes. I'd get rid of the Menu and rebuild it, but I'm not sure how to achieve this without disrupting all the links in and out of the Menu. I've emailed Support, but that may take a while, so any suggestions appreciated - is there any Menu setting which can stop Navigation settings being customized? So frustrating - this long standing project is ready to burn apart from this .....

To avoid adding too many updates .... I haven't found out why, but I think I've found a workaround. I can re-add the same whole movie from Explorer -this creates a new button, which I can name, set in/out points, to replace each badly behaving button which I then delete, AND, thankfully, the new buttons accept changes in Navigation at least the first one has ....

DAMN - first Video Button worked, but when I replace the link arrows at the bottom, they stay stuck on Auto - and the same with the second new Video Chapter button - I can't change their Navigation.

Can anyone help create a new menu to replace this one, and which behaves properly?

The reason this is such a problem is that I've got every other Menu in the Project - that's seven others - working so the whole page can be navigated using left or right arrows - an idea inspired by Gary Kleiner's excellent DVD.

Same thing happened to me. I can't sort this issue out.

Keep in mind that the default / auto navigation for buittons depends on which button is "in line" with the one you're navigating from. If your buttons are arranged vertically, but the one for Chapter 10 is too far to the right, then you migh "miss" it when you navigate downward from Chapter 9. The solution is to either be sure that everthing is lined up or to change the navigation settings per Planders' instructions.

This has been discussed before, and the "solution" is to put the MPEG files into the project one after the other, in the order you want them to navigate. If they are already in your project, start with the last file, select it, cut it, and then immediately paste it.

This is a quote from Sony from one of those threads:

"DVDA automatically determines the order of titles when preparing the DVD. DVDA does not provide a way for the user to control the order of titles. So, when the project is changed the order of titles may also change."

Here are the links to other threads:

DVDA navigation 1

DVDA navigation 2

DVDA navigation 3

Hate to do this again, John, but I think you misunderstood the original post in this thread. You seem to be talking about moving between multiple MPEGs while viewing the video(s) on a DVD (ie, the previous and next buttons). The original post is simply asking about moving around a scene selection MENU. Also sounds like the original poster is referring to a single MPEG with multiple chapters, not multiple MPEGs made to appear like chapters.

BTW, in the situation which you describe, is there's a need to cut / paste the items, or can you just drag items around the Project Overview window to change their order? I mean, I know you can drag items around, but would that be sufficient for what you're trying to accomplish? [Edit: This last paragraph was originally a statement, but I changed it to a question.]

OK, so I answered the wrong question again. But wasn't it fun?

Too bad I didn't answer the real question, because that is easier to answer.

The problem is caused by the size of the box around the text. If you have this sort of situation:
------------------------------
Button 1
------------------------------
---------------
Button 2
---------------
------------------------------
Button 3
------------------------------
then button 2 can get "lost," and your cursor will skip from button 1 directly to button 3. Depending the exact sizes of each button, the navigation may work correctly going from top to bottom, but not bottom to top (or vice versa).

The solution is simply to click on button two, find the "handle" on the right side, and drag it to make the enclosure larger. If the text gets bigger, you will have to explicitly set the text font size to make it match the others (I usually select all the buttons and then set the font size, rather than rely on "Auto").
