chapters/rtm

ok, i think i'm getting the hang of DVD-A although i still can't figure out why a thumbnail already linked to a chapter can't just use the video it's already pointing to (video object in project) for its motion video instead of forcing you to go out and point to an different video file totally external to the project.
but anyway..
i did a project in Pinnacle where there were multiple options off the main menu each pointing to its own segment of video. a couple of these segments contained a single chapter and stood on their own. that is these chapters were not related at all to the other chapters/segments and therefore needed a return to menu right at the end. in Pinnacle, the rtm you put in at the end would work if you let the chapter play through to the end. however, it wouldn't work if while playing that chapter, you scroll to the next chapter. for some reason, the rtm was totally ignored and control was sent to the first chapter of the next totally unrelated segment. now i still don't know for sure if this was a Pinnacle problem (there were plenty) or if this was working as it was supposed to but i've seen professionally made DVD's where this is done. seems to me to be basic functionality. so that brings up these questions..
dvd-a seems to put in rtm's automatically at the end of the video (which works) but not at the end of each chapter which is a good thing since most of the time you'll want the entire video to play straight through with or without chapters. so question - does vms allow you to set your own rtm's whereever you want them??
and if so, will they handle the above scenario correctly (rtm preventing scrolling to next unrelated chapter)??

ok, maybe this needs a bit of clarification..

Main Menu
link to Item 1
link to Item 2

Item 1
single chapter w/ return to last menu at end

Item 2
same as Item 1

not only am i asking if i can add a return to menu at the end of item 1(there is no 'end action' option for individual links) but if i can, will it totally ignore the rtm of item 1 and skip right to item 2 if you press the next chapter button on the remote??

If you chose the scene selection menu in your main menu, it should be a snap to have each scene to do whatever you want (how it plays and end action). Perhaps you have accidently chosen the wrong format. Or you haven't actually gone into that section. Highlighting it from the main won't git er dun. If you double click that branch you will go to that link and all the usual options such as end action and what you want it to do are available.

Hope that helps

since both my links are off the main menu, i didn't need a scene selection menu but what you suggested still works. i double click on either link and i get an End Action option in the media properties. so that's what i was missing.
thanx mucho..
still curious to see if the rtm will be totally skipped when pressing the next chapter button but i guess i'll find out..

That is something that occasionally takes a while to get used to. When looking at items on a menu page, you're actually controlling how that menu page gets to those items, not those items themselves. You have to open each item in order to control how it behaves.

In other words, when looking at a menu page, you're only operating on the links to the items, not the items themselves.
