Chop up long video / add to Project Media folder?

Hi,

I am working on a project where I want to edit a bunch of small clips out of video that I have imported from a DVD.

I thought I could do this in the timeline by splitting the video into clips and then pasting them into the Project Media folder. This does not work.

What is the best method for chopping up a long video into small clips and adding them to the Project Media folder?

Thanks!

Do you have VMS 10? If so, you can create subclips.

No, I have VMSP9,

As a workaround, I guess I can load the long video into a track on the timeline and then split and drag the clips where I want them to be on another track.

The project media tab is just a way to see what's in the timeline of your project. You don't add files to it, its automatically updated by what you do in the timeline.

Your "workaround" is the way to go about it.

Or you could use the Trimmer by opening the whole thing there, selecting each of the sections you want to use with the I and O buttons. Frame accurate selections can be made using the Alt + the L or R arrows as necessary). Pressing A transfers these selections to the Timelinine (where you can use Pan 7 Crop or add FX to each selection as you see tne need).
