Choppy preview during transitions

I have Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 Premium and it's never given me this problem before, but recently with some videos I just acquired every time I try and put in a transition, the preview suddenly becomes choppy when I get to it, without fail. I've rendered it and it's gone away, but it's really difficult to edit like this.

The video files are DivX and XviD, M-PEG files. I've heard f I render them with Vegas Movie Studio, then they'll be good for use, and I've tried this and it's worked. My problem is rendering them lossless or even non-lossless with Vegas Movie Studio makes them a few GB at best, many GB at worst.

The files are all around 350 MB.

Can anyone assist in getting my previews to work, or help me find an alternate way of converting that will leave the files under a GB?

Transitions are high CPU actions, so they almost never going to be real time, unless the videos are really small resolution and easy to render. If they come ok after you render, then there's no problem. If you really need to preview transitions in real time, just "pre-render" from the main menu. Also, make sure your project properties are set properly, to match your source footage. If your footage is from different sources, so you can never match project properties, then don't expect maximum speed.
