chroma key and timeline help

Hello,

I have images and film clips on the video overlay part of the timeline. I am following the directions for creating a green screen from the VASST site. But, when I do the following:
******
The white you see is a mask from the upper track. We're going to use this to pass the image below. In the lower track, click the Parent/Child button.

In the upper track, choose the Mask mode in the Compositing Mode option.
******
The rest of the images and clips on the video overlay do not show. As I play the preview, it's black until I get to the green screen clip I created.

Is there a way to just isolate green screen clip to play correctly without affecting the rest of the timeline?

Use separate tracks for greenscreen vs. normal clips.

Thanks, but if I use this tutorial on greenscreening, it calls for three tracks to be used, which wouldn't allow me to separate the greenscreen clips from the rest of the clips on the timeline.

Do you know of a different tutorial to accomplish what you suggest?
I use VMS 7 Platinum
