HDV is far superior to DV for chroma key. It's not only the color sampling but the 5x increase in resolution. Pull a key on both and see for yourself. You'll get a much cleaner key with HDV.

I did a comparison between NewBlueFX's Chroma Keyer and Sony's and NewBlue gave a much more usable key than Sony's.

I wanted to also try Cinegobs but I can't get it to work on my main editing station- just my laptop.

Just an FYI

I can get a much better key with Boris FX than I can with New Blue Video Essentials 2 or the stock Vegas chroma key filter. It's a pain the first time and a bit complicated to figure out, but once you have a couple of your own presets it is pretty simple after that.

I guess I need to try it out (Boris).

The link below will show you a key done from a less that perfect green screen background.

For the wide shots I used the NewBlue keyer and for the close-up shots I used the standard Vegas keyer. This was shot on a Canon GL2 standard def camera.

Depending on what you have to work with you may need to select the background that works best for your key.
