chroma key problem

hello, I tried to apply the chroma key effect in Vegas 5, but it doesn't work because the different tracks aren't showed with a precise hierarchy (although I defined the precise levels).
So every track is mixed with the others and do not overlay: I can only manage the transparency level but the various actors are shown like ghosts, that is the background image shows through the main one (with increasing opacity).
The chroma key effect should be useful to put a track upon another (except for the key/green colour) and not to show the second track by managing the transparency level of the first track.
Maybe I must activate something to stop the ghost effect?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
Regards

I'm not sure I fully understand your situation but when you say ( with increasing opacity ) it makes me think you may have some keyframe problem.
Like maybe placed a keyframe by mistake .

Make your keyed track "child" of the upper one...
You can also aply a chroma smoother FX before chromakey FX to facilitate key smoothness.

thank you, the source of videos is a mini dv cam.
On the basis of your suggestion I tried to overlay some logos captured from the net, and I verified that now the chroma key effect works (tracks overlayed, neat, and not mixed).
so the problem is the source/qualityof the video (lights/colours) and not the software.
I hope that Vegas will be able to manage videos as well as static/uniform images.
thank you a lot!

From what i have seen, Vegas is much better than Final Cut (for example) for chromakeying duty. Chromakeying requires a clean footage (even and clearly lighted background, correctly lighted subject, etc.) in any soft BTW. None do magical here. You can easily obtain some kind of color transparency, but when you need professionnal results, that's another story...

Thank you, after several experiments, I noticed that your words are absolutely good to describe the chroma key situation: the precision of this effects is not easy to be obtained.
It dipends on a lot of factors, so I won't be too critical with my results!
Thank you again
