Cineform HDV Codec Issues

First, I'm a total newbie; just bought Vegas 8. I know how to do the basics and some advanced editing.

I'm putting together an HD demo for my company's product and have downloaded some WMV 1080p clips and recorded an OTA NFL broadcast (MPG) to use in the project. Obviously, playback is a little slow so I'm trying to render an intermediate clip using the provided HDV codec.

Whenever I do this it produces a terrible looking clip - functional, but looks aweful. If I choose the DV codec I have no problems just lower resolution.

I suppose that I don't need to use an HD intermediate file, but it doesn't seem right. Any thoughts?

How did you record the NFL OTA?

My experience has been that the 1080 clips can cause slowdowns on many systems. Rendering to 720p can also be an option.

OTA (over the air) HDTV tuner via MCE. Gives me a dvr-ms file which is then converted to a standard mpg-2 HD file via VideoRedoPlus.

I hadn't checked that, but rendering using the HDV codec in 720p yields the same results. The resulting file looks like it has interlaced red bars and other color artifacts.
