Cineform not showing picture, just audio

I usually edit native HDV, but have just experimented and rendered to avi with Cineform HD codec v2.8. The file plays OK on external player (Nero Showtime), but when loaded to Vegas 8.0a it only has audio stream - why? In Vegas explorer/project media, the status line says "Video: stream attributes cannot be determined".

I'd also do with some general explanation of Cineform licencing and availability in Vegas. I did have the Aspect trial installed on my system, but this has long expired. Is it likely to cause the problem?

I understand some Cinform intermediate codec IS included with Vegas - which is it?

Vegas 8 on some systems get confusion a replaces more recent CineForm licenses with an old one that isn't compatible with modern CineForm files. The solution is to install NEO Player (a free download from CineForm.com) which updates you CineForm licenses for use in Vegas. If Vegas8 is still confused (i,e. a bug) go into the Vegas8 programs folder and rename the cfhd.dll to cfhdold.dll (so it won't be used.)
