"Clean-up" script request

I'm looking for a script that will do the following for all events on selected tracks:

- delete all events under a user-defined threshold length
- convert all overlaps/cross-fades/transitions under the threshold length to a cut
- close all gaps under the threshold length by either (at user option):
a. extending adjoining clips to fill the gap (maintain project length) OR
b. ripple-editing (based on current settings) to move events to fill the gap (shortening
the project)

This would be a great timesaver. Currently, I have to hunt through the timeline cut by cut to delete any inadvertent gaps, overlaps, etc. before printing to tape.

Can this be done? Thanks in advance.

From your description, it appears that all of these things could be done. Some things would need to be better defined:

i.e. if you remove a dissolve do you a) shorten the left clip? b) Shorten the right clip? c) shorten both clips half way?

Same with filling a gap: left, right or both?

Excalibur can currently do b. ripple-editing (based on current settings) to move events to fill the gap (shortening the project) although it will close ALL gaps and not just gaps under a specific length.

What does Vegas default to if you select the transition and press {Ctrl}{\} on the numeric keypad?

My preference in both cases would be to shorten both clips halfway as default (but perhaps this could be user-customized?).

Yes, I know, Edward. That's what gave me the idea. I think you were looking for other suggestions for your next project, right? Could this fit the bill?

Let me know either here on the forum, or by e-mail, if I can clarify anything else.

Thanks for the response.

jetdv had talked to me outside of this fourm, and we discussed the idea of putting this into one of his commercial script projects. I see that his Tsunami (http://thetroxels.com/tsunami/) has just been released, and as good as it looks (I intend to purchase it when I get home tonight), it does not include this "clean-up" feature.

So, I am renewing my request for this script. I am not a programmer, and I am loathe to learn Java Script just for this (I hope) relatively simple feature. I'd be willing to pay $20-40 for a shareware feature, but I don't think I can afford to hire someone as a custom developer.

If it's asking too much to ask someone to write this for me please point me to some sample scripts that would have the elements I'd need to do this. I may just bite the bullet and try writing something myself.

Thanks in advance.
