Cleaning-Media-Pool

I have a project in folder with one main avi clip, avi titles files and a music bed.
I want to delete all unused files. When using the media pool, remove all unused media from project function is pressed only the media that is used in the project is displayed. A explorer directory view shows several other files in the folder including three copies of the main avi used numbered 000, 000-000, and 000-000-000 at the end of the filename. What does the clean media pool function do?

Can the media pool be cleaned to eliminate all files except the files used in the project or does this have to be completed manually?

Yes. Click the little "broom" icon at the top left of the media pool to remove all unused media from the project's media pool. (Unused means it is not in the timeline)

Thank you for your reply but I did use the broom. The media pool only shows the files
used in the project but if you look with explorer in the file folder there are several duplicate files. The Media Pool, broom function will not remove the files not used in the project in the given file folder on my system.

It only cleans the Media Pool in VV of the files not used in the projet, but does not remove those files from your system. I was hoping that it would remove them form the system because it would save me the trouble of selecting the ones I want to completely delete. What I decided to do was go into Windows Explorer and delete some of the bigger ones that I know the project doesn't need, so some HDD space is freed up.

A work-around I have found is to make another folder as a child to the folder with your completed project. Then save the project to the new child folder with the copy and trim media with project. In this new folder will be only the media you have included in the timeline in your project. I am not completely sure this will work because I haven't had the time to move the child folder, delete the parent folder and check.
I was hoping my application of the sweep function in the media pool was wrong. If it worked the way we think it would work it would save ducking and weaving with files and folders to preserve hd space.
