Clipping an RAW AVI file

Hi. Getting to grips with vegas. But I do not understand something.
a) Ive got a 40MB raw AVI captured clip from my DV Camera
b) Its a single file 40MB on my hard drive lasting say 2 mins.
c) I only want a 10 sec clip.
d) I can use the trimmer, and put a small 10sec clip on my timeline
e) BUT the original 40MB file stays the same.

How do I trim the raw AVI file from my DV camera so thats its 5 MB on my hard drive rather than 40MB?

After you trim it and put it on the timeline, render it to a new .avi file. Then when you're satisfied with the results you can delete the original file.
