Closed Caption Crashing

G'day,

Running Vegas Pro 11 on a Sony VPCL218FGB and for the most part love it, well why wouldn't i when I was using a very outdated Velocity, but that's another story. Made a 47min documentary, even won an award, with some challenges along the way and overcame them, but now I am trying to Closed Caption and it just crashes every time I put in a line. Would upgrading to Pro 13 be a quick fix, or do I need more power under the bonnet (hood)?

Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated,

I know that until recently there have been a lot of complaints about Closed Captioning not working in the versions after 11. I'm not sure if that is all builds or if it's been fixed. I still use 11 for all my closed captioning and haven't had issues.

Can you tell a bit more about your workflow and media, and exactly at which point the crash happens?

CC is broken in VP13 only, from my experience and those of others who have posted.

VP12 is perfectly fine as has VP11 been, in my experience.

I'd stay away from VP13 for CC...

thanks Tom and Atom12, and I'll stay clear of VP13 for now

I'm editng HDV, using Red Giant for an overall look, mostly basic cuts and real speed, and I've cut and paste the entire script and just clicking on in points for each line, and after about 3 or 4 clicks it crashes.

I just had a thought, would it make sense just to CC over a rendered file instead?

thanks for your help,
Marcus

That would be my first suggestion. The CC work I do is all SD, so I work with a single uncompressed avi source and render to uncompressed avi to include the line 21 information.

If the complexity of the project is what's giving you problems, you can also try setting a bunch of blank command markers then open View>Edit Details and select command markers. You can then input your text for multiple lines within that window.
