Closed Captioning question???

If I capture a video that is closed captioned, will the captioning stay intact after I edit it and print it back to tape?? I have some Betacam SP tapes with captioning on them that I need to edit, I am running the beta deck into a MiniDV deck, then into vegas through firewire, then when I'm done I want to run the print to tape out through the MiniDV deck back into the Betacam deck. Anybody know if it will work???

I guess nobody knows, I'll post back here to let everyone know if it works or not, I'm assuming it will, but it would really suck if it didn't since %75 of the videos we edit from have CC on them.

Jsnkc,

There was a bunch of talk on this forum about closed captioning about two or three months ago. I don't know much about closed captioning, but was under the impression that it was encoded as a separate data stream.

I am willing to bet that if your originals have the CC showing up all the time, then it will survive the capture/edit/output, and if it is separately encoded, then you will loose it.

I actually knew the answer to my question all along and just realised it :) The Mini DV deck we have won't play back CC but the DV-CAM deck that we have will, so we run the Beta through the DV-CAM deck and then the captioning does remain on the tape when we print to tape through the DV-CAM deck into the Betcam deck.
