This is an outgrowth of another thread I stated that dealt with certain videos not playing their full length in Vegas and Media Player. Still don't know what exactly my problem is but the following is a nice little application (free) you may want to install.

It quickly finds all the CODECS on your system, plus has a library of other CODECS and tells you what CODEC is being use to play such and such file. While meant for AVI it works with MPEG too, just don't give as much info.
