Codec error

I just purchased Vegas Movie Studio 7 to help edit my effects composites back into our projects. I'm having a problem with rendering Quicktimes. I have QT 7 Pro installed and I usually render an uncompressed quicktime as my Master, then using QT Pro, I export smaller compressed copies(usually H.264 codec). Every Quicktime that I render from Vegas, crashes the Export Controller in QT Pro. I've tried reinstalling QT several times. I've also tried to render the edit straight from Vegas in H.264 and I get an error
"error while using a codec".

Any ideas?

forgive me for asking the obvious, but have you downloaded the latest release? The only reason I ask is that I recall some folks having permissions problems with areas of the program that was allegedly fixed with the latest release.

also - what operating software - XP - Vista?

I'm using version 7.0a build 52 on Windows XP. It's seems to be a problem with H.264 because I was successful in rendering a Sorenson3 version from Vegas.

Thanks

I also get the ambiguous "error using a codec" when trying to export with h.264. I'm using the same build as mentioned above, and also have success with Sorensen. In fact, the ONLY codec I can't use is h.264 - the one I really wanted.

Is anyone with VMS 7 / WinXP having success? (BTW, I read elsewhere, also, about changing the codec settings, but I don't get the usual dialog when I choose this output option - does anyone?)
