CODEC for vertical video

yirow wrote on 1/19/2023, 9:49 AM

Hi,

I'm trying to render some short videos for mobile, so vertical 9:16. I'm getting an error message when rendering that doesn't tell me anything besides "An error ocurred while creating the media file untitled.mp4. An invalid argument was specified."

Google informs me some codecs don't support unconventional video resolutions, and AVC doesn't support vertical video. When googling for other codecs I get some results, but no way to install any to Sony Vegas. Additionally, "Sony Vegas comes with all required codecs preinstalled, don't go around adding stuff that might break your system."

So I'm at a loss what I'm supposed to do here, any tips/guidelines, am I being thickskulled about this whole endeavour?

Thanks in advance!

Which version of "Sony" Vegas you're using?

Hi, I'm on VEGAS Pro 14.0.

VegasPro 13 was the latest version produced by "Sony".

I recommend to install Voukoder for Vegas (12-17) to easy render to all aspect ratios.

Have you set the timeline to match your media which I presume is 9:16?. If so when you select to render pick the nearest match and then customise to 9:16. You should then be good to go. Voukoder is a good choice. Note: if your timeline media is 9:16 check that the framerate is constant.
