Codec issues

I'm working with Nikon's mov files. (1080i 60fps)
When rendering to mp4 in Vegas with one of the Mainconcept templates, it takes about 6 minutes to produce an ugly, stuttering mp4-file.
When I render the same file with Windows Live Movie Maker (!!!!!!!), it takes 2 minutes and I get an excellent, NON-stuttering mp4-file. (The same good result is had with Nikon's NX2 movie software.)

I have been a loyal user of Vegas for many years. I would love to combine the editing power of Vegas with the superior codec of Microsoft. Can anybody help me here?

Have you made sure your Movie Studio project properties match your source video? That's the single most important thing. That and having the latest version of Quicktime.

What do you plan to do with this mp4 after you output it? There are optimized Render As templates for a number of purposes: Onlline, post to YouTube or Vimeo, use in another project. It's possible you chose an output template that's much more intensive the one produced by Live MovieMaker.

But first I'd make sure my project properties are correct and/or that you've got your project properties set up to properly interpret your source footage.

I'm quite experienced with VMS, so I did match the project settings. It is not so much the time it takes to render that bothers me, but the quality of the end result: esp with pans, there is a lot of stuttering/choppiness.
I'm going to upload an example to illustrate. I'll be back.

And don't forget to say which Render As template you selected.
