Codec Issues - Please, someone help!

Hi there!,
For the past 30 days, I had been using a trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 10 on my computer. I'm a film student, so I actually made my final assessment on Sony Vegas.
The footage I record has to be captured on the schools computer which are all Macs.
I generally re-encode this footage to Xvid at home where I then import into Sony Vegas. This has never been an issue up until now.
Last night, I registered my copy of Sony Vegas, which as you all know, is not cheap.

Now that I have the registered software however, I am no longer able to import any of my Xvid footage for school.

Worse still, I cannot even re-open old project files.

Please, please, please tell me there is a way to fix this!!
This program cost me a lot of money and I desperately need it to work.

Thank you in advance!

have you added / installed anything in the meantime?

for serious help you need to enter your sys specs.

First of all,
"I generally re-encode this footage to Xvid at home where I then import into Sony Vegas."
Why?

With respect to your inexperience, that is one of the least optimal transcoding options at your disposal.

True, but it did work. I've since been encoding the footage as mov's in Final Cut Pro. The first batch of footage I encoded however was Xvid, admittedly due to my inexperience. Had some interesting progress with Vegas too. I can now open the files. They just suddenly started working again, even though I couldn't open a single thing last night and again earlier this morning. Weird. Thanks for responding though guys! Sorry for the false alarm.

You will need to provide the file properties from the Mac computer in order to get a meaningful response here.

Download and install MediaInfo and use it to post the complete properties of your imported files.

Then someone can make an informed recommendation as to the best way(s) to ingest these files into Vegas.

Hint: Xvid is not one of them. If you are a committed student you should be at least interested in improving your workflow and end product.

Yes. I'm not using Xvid anymore, as I said. I'm afraid that I can't get any info on the Macs right now as I am on school holidays.

I should also point out that I do render the footage on Final Cut to be the exact same resolution, bit rate and frame rate as the source material.

OK, best of luck to you.

Hi Rose,
Glad it started working for you!
Just out of interest - what proportion of students at your place use Vegas?
